ANAHEIM, Calif. – Shohei Ohtani tolerated two runs, received 8 strikeouts and made 117 pitches in seven innings of the Los Angeles Angels ’3-1 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday.
The Japanese star, who shines as a pitcher and batsman, is leading the greats with 42 homers in the season. On the mound, it improved its effectiveness to 2.97.
Ohtani (9-1) worked at least seven innings for the fifth time in 20 openings during that campaign. And he reached the hundred pitches for the fourth time in 32 openings inside the greats.
His biggest major league pitch was 110, on May 20, 2018, against Tampa Bay.
The last time Ohtani had made at least 117 pitches was in the Japanese League, during his final game of the regular season. Totaled 124 by the Nippon Ham Fighters against Sapporo in October 2017.
In his eleventh opening inside Angel Stadium during this campaign, Ohtani’s only bad throw came in the second inning, when Jason Martin found a straight and sent it across the wall, between the right garden and central. The two-run homer tied the board.
Steve Cishek solved the eighth inning and Cuban Raisel Iglesias processed the ninth to count 30 saves on 35 opportunities.
The defeat was for the Dominican Dennis Santana (2-4).
For the Rangers, the Venezuelan Yonny Hernández 4-0. The Cuban Adolis García 3-1. Dominican Leody Taveras 4-0.
