SAN FRANCISCO – A poor throw from second baseman Trea Turner after a Buster Posey roll with two outs and full bases in the 11th inning gave the San Francisco Giants a 3-2 victory Friday over the Dodgers. Los Angeles and the top spot in the Western Division of the National League.
The two teams started the night tied by the head. The Giants were on the verge of winning in the ninth inning, but Posey missed the opportunity and the Dodgers came from behind to equalize the board 1-1.
After two runs in the 10th, St. Francis filled the bases at the final inning against Evan Phillips (1-1), the Dodgers ’11th pitcher, who charged with defeat.
Posey hit 1 roulette to Turner, who despite having time to rush a throw that took first baseman Will Smith off the mark. Smith desperately tried to get back to base while Posey got it. With fans shouting that it had been a safe arrival and players from both sides waiting, a video review confirmed the play.
The victory went to the record of the Dominican Jarlín García (6-3) with an entrance with ball of a hit and two winds.
San Francisco (86-49) has a one-game lead over Los Angeles (85-50) after rivals reached the first game of the decisive series tied for divisional leadership for the first time since Sept. 18, 1997.
For the Dodgers, the Dominican Albert Pujols 1-0.
For the Giants, the Venezuelan Thairo Estrada 5-1.
