SRINAGAR: J&K police on Saturday filed a FIR against members of the family of dead separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others for raising anti-national slogans and putting Pakistani flag on his body.
A police officer said: “The FIR searched the Budgam police station against Geelani’s relatives along with other elements to raise anti-national slogans and put Pakistani flag on the body of the separatist at his home after his death on Wednesday.” .
Geelani, 92, had died Wednesday evening at his Hyderpora residence here after a prolonged illness. Family members had alleged that police snatched the body at night and buried it in silence, an accusation totally denied by police. A video showing the Pakistani flag over Geelani’s body had gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Kashmir Valley remained peaceful, except for a small stone-throwing incident in the Narkara area of Budgam district.
Vijay Kumar, PGI (Kashmir area), said several preventive measures were taken to maintain law and order after Geelani’s death. Police have made preventive arrests of dozens of misdemeanors so far, he added.
“Mobile Internet services, which were suspended after Geelani’s death, will be restored shortly after reviewing the general security situation,” Kumar said, adding that the service on Friday had already restored calls from Geelani. Cellular Voice and Broadband Services
