Lant Norris enjoys every time he complicates a maneuver to Sergio Pérez, even in front of the press he has no qualms about delighting in his feats, but the Mexican Red Bull team has bigger problems to solve instead of getting entangled in a duel with McLaren English.
These are at least two times when Norris has closed the door on Checo Pérez, in the fighting position, not to mention the fact that the Briton has intervened with all the law in front of the tapatío.
The first serious one was in Austria, when Perez tried to advance to the beginning of the race. Lant went as wide as he could and sent the Czech RB16B to the ground, which cost him 7 or 8 positions, while the Englishman was given five seconds which, fortunately, they did not affect him much.
After the race, Lando Norris’ statements were sarcastic: ‘what did he expect’, ‘he took the risk’. Czech warned him via the media that next time it would not be so ‘decent’.
The second, on Sunday at the Dutch Grand Prix. Sergio Pérez was noticeably faster and passed him in ninth place, in a maneuver outside on turn 1, called Tarzan, but Norris saw him in the mirror and deliberately left him without the space he had already earned by right. the tapatío.
What followed was a strong contact that damaged Pérez’s act, but managed to overtake. At the end of the race, Norris, very funny commented on television “I’m not going to make life easier (for Pérez) … I also want these points. I gave him space, not much, but enough.”
Norris’s attitude was that of the cat that ate the mouse and no one noticed.
First in Portugal, Styria, then Monaco, in its own right and great performances, Lando became Pérez’s ‘coconut’, a sporting battle, but which Norris wants to turn into a mental game.
Right now, Norris is fourth in the championship with 114 points, 108 for the Czech, both below Valtteri Bottas, who has 123. But the truth is, Perez should be more worried about Bottas than Norris.
The Mexican has a job to do which is to beat the Finn so that Red Bull can be crowned in the Constructors’ Championship. After the Dutch GP run in the Netherlands, the difference is 12 units in favor of Mercedes.
Distracting with Norris to seek revenge is the worst mistake Perez can make. His focus should be on his goal not on a talented 21-year-old, 10 less than him, who already chose him as the favorite target of his occurrences.
As we have already said, Czech must have solid Fridays, bright Saturdays and Sunday on the podium. Focus on Mercedes and leave McLaren behind and remember, if you’ve heard a song by Fito Páez that says, “you never have to make enemies, don’t live up to the conflict.”
