Two of the Yankees ’top 30 prospects and a 14-run ninth inning led the Class-A High Hudson Valley Renegades to a monumental 23-4 win Sunday night.
Venezuelan Everson Pereira, New York’s 13th-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline, delivered the final blow by connecting a grand slam with two outs, crowning a three-homer performance in which he also scored six pushed-five runs.
The Hudson Valley toletería connected 2 grand slams and a total of five bambinazos during the last inning, turning the battery over twice and sending a total of 18 batters to the plate in the process. Dominican Greensboro pitcher Oliver Garcia, who came into the game with a respectable 3.45 ERA this season, allowed eight clean runs and scored a single out.
Catcher Austin Wells – New York’s sixth-best prospect – connected on 5 hits. The 22-year-old receiver hit a home run in the third inning, tied four singles, took a ticket and scored a couple of runs.
Jake Sanford (prospect No. 23) contributed to the ninth party with a two-run homer.
The 23 runs are the most scored in a game by a High-Class team since May 27, 2016, when Lancaster JetHawks scored 29 in a California League duel.
