Paris police arrest two suspects after Bulgari jewel robbery in elegant Place Vendome

PARIS – Paris police arrested two suspects following a Bulgari jewel robbery on Tuesday in the luxurious Place Vendome. A suspicious officer was shot in the leg by an officer before being arrested.

Place Vendome is one of the most expensive and luxurious shopping areas in Paris, and in Europe, a base for prestigious establishments such as the Ritz Hotel, Cartier, Rolex, Chanel jewelry, as well as the Ministry of Justice. At its center is the famous Vendôme Column.

Police told The Associated Press that they were alerted to a robbery by hand around noon. Officers chased a car with three suspects inside after seizing two scooters believed to have been used in the crime as well. The car was later abandoned.

It is unclear what the thieves were able to take away from the designer jewelry. Police were unable to confirm French reports that millions of jewelry were taken away.

Police arrested a suspect in the parking lot of Les Halles shopping center in central Paris. Police are still searching for a third suspect and an investigation into the armed robbery has begun.
