Today we reported on the new city in the PlayStation 5 version of NBA 2K22, but now we have the full Courtside report, which delves into every detail. The main takeaway is that the new Race mode is basically an open world role-playing game, as opposed to a Telltale-style story with some basketball games in between.
Explore the sandbox, build your brand, and interact with agents, CEOs, and more. Instead of following a linear plot, instead you will be free to tackle side missions, such as becoming a record producer or fashion designer, while trying to achieve your overall goal of playing in the NBA.
In addition, seasonal updates will bring new missions and plots to the game, while every six weeks there will be a new batch of rewards to unlock. You will be able to compete in bike races and of course you will be able to play on the tracks all over the world open against other players online. There will even be new adaptation buildings, so you no longer have to wait in queues if you don’t want to.
2K Sports has added a lot of NPCs to make the environment feel more alive than its predecessors, and of course there will be several shops and other places of interest to interact with. It’s unclear how the plot will be handled on the PS4 (the new cruise ship-themed neighborhood seems significantly smaller than the city’s), but we plan to do a review of both versions if possible.
For more information on the kind of things you can find in the city, we recommend that you read the Court Report which goes into full detail. You can explore by bike, skateboard or inline skates and, as previously reported, the overall reward for reaching level 40 in the first season is a kart. It should be fun!
