Virus activity is “very high” in 56 counties

MADISON, Russia. (WBAY) – The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reports that the spread of COVID-19 remains very high in 56 counties (updated number) and high in the other 16. But on positive news, DHS says the spread of the virus has shown “no significant change” in the past two weeks. Between August 25 and September 7, 463.3 cases per 100,000 people in Wisconsin were confirmed. This exceeds 440.1 cases per 100,000 from the previous two weeks, but the number of cases increased during this two-week period (the “trajectory”). Do we reach a plateau? We may have to wait another week to get this answer.

The spread of the virus is “very high” in all counties in the WBAY display area except Menominee County. Over the two-week period, there has been no significant change in the number of cases in 13 of the counties we are following. The state says the cases are reduced to Calumet, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc and Waupaca counties. The number of cases is growing in the county of Florence.

After a fall after the holidays, Wisconsin’s COVID-19 numbers made a leap after the holidays on Wednesday. The same happened on December 27, January 4 and July 6, as clinics and medical facilities resumed normal hours, increased coronavirus testing and it is possible that health department staff local has recovered the records after a break.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Wisconsin increased by 19, to 7,686 lives lost. Of these seventeen passed over the past 30 days and are accounted for the average of seven days. The state averages eight deaths a day. Dodge, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca and Winnebago counties each reported one death.

DHS says the state makes a daily average of 1,590 new cases of coronavirus, slightly more than the average of 1,583 on Tuesday. In addition, it reports that 8.4% of all tests in the last 7 days showed positive for the virus that causes COVID-19, compared to 8.0% the previous day, but more in line with the positivity rate of 8.3% reported before the weekend of Labor Day. The state identified 2,064 new cases in the latest batch of test results. Since Tuesday’s report, all counties in the WBAY display area have increased cases (the total number of cases and deaths in the county is shown in this article).

There were 187 more hospital admissions for COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, but given the discharges and deaths, the number of patients currently hospitalized decreased. He Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) reports that there are 1,039 COVID-19 patients statewide and 313 of them are in intensive care. They are 2 less in the ICU and 6 less overall compared to Tuesday. Hospitals in the Northeast Health Region have 90 patients, with 31 in the ICU; there are no changes in the number of ICUs, but 6 less in general. Hospitals in the Fox Valley region are treating 70 patients, which is 2 more than a day ago, with 11 of them in the ICU, which is 3 less. Since the pandemic began, 5.42% of cases have resulted in hospitalization.

The Wisconsin State Hygiene Laboratory says 100% of the case samples that underwent genetic testing over the past two weeks were the delta variant. Three weeks ago, the delta variant was found in 98.74% of the samples. Only a fraction of the cases are shown for genetic testing to determine which variants are dominant and whether new mutations appear. A new variant, known as mu, has been detected elsewhere in the US; there is doubt that it has resistance to the vaccine, but it does not appear to be as contagious as the delta variant.

As reported, the delta variant is more contagious and is more likely to cause severe symptoms, even death, than the original COVID-19 virus that arrived in Wisconsin in February 2020. These include cases called advances between people who have been fully vaccinated, even though they represent a fraction of the number of patients who are not vaccinated or have not completed the vaccination process.

To date, 52.0% of the entire Wisconsin population has completed COVID-19 vaccines, including 62.6% of adults. They are 3,027,602 people.

A total of 3,224,764 people have received at least one dose of vaccine, which is 55.4% of the state’s population, including 66.3% of adults. Nearly 50% of Wisconsinites (49.7%) aged 16 to 24 have received at least one dose of vaccine. Children aged 12 to 15 are not left behind, with 43.7% of their age group being vaccinated.

** Cases and deaths come from state COVID-19 reports, which may differ from local health department numbers. Wisconsin DHS reports cases from all health departments within a county, including tribal, municipal, and county health departments; county websites may not be. In addition, public health departments update their data at various times, while DHS freezes the numbers it receives every day at the same time to prepare the afternoon report.
