HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Both Oahu and Maui will soon implement “pass vaccine” programs. But will other counties follow the same example?
Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth said he is not likely to implement a similar initiative at this time.
“We try right now to bring our community together instead of tearing them apart, you never want a community to fall apart,” Roth said. “The more we can bring people together to work in a situation, the more likely we are to believe we will have positive results.”
Roth said some county services are being delayed due to staff shortages, either by testing positive for COVID or being in close contact with those infected.
Kauai County says a “vaccine” program is being studied, but no decisions have been made.
Maui County will implement its own program starting Sept. 15. Mayor Mike Victorino said this would mean restaurant customers would have to show vaccination tests to be inside restaurants, bars and gyms. Otherwise, for restaurants they could choose outdoor dining rooms, if available, or takeaway food.
More details are expected to be announced later this week.
Maui County has the lowest vaccination rate in the state: only 54% are fully vaccinated.
For the city and county of Honolulu, thousands of businesses are preparing to comply with the Safe Access Oahu program, which goes into effect on September 13th. taken during the last 48 hours.
