Judge Isander Rivera Morales, of the Court of Caguas, today found cause for arrest against the ex-boxer, Juan Manuel “Juanma” López Rivera, after the Department of Justice filed seven charges of physical and psychological abuse, through threat and damage on property against the spousal related to four incidents of gender-based violence against his ex-partner, Andrea Ojeda Cruz.
Lopez Rivera was given a bail of $ 175,000, which he lent, so he was released under electronic supervision and restricted from leaving his home.
López Rivera’s defense was leveled at the determination of probable cause in all charges filed by prosecutor Jaime Perea Mercado, of the Caguas District Attorney’s Office, and the preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 21.
“We are not going to comment. Juanma is fine and will sleep at home,” Barceló Sosa said as he hurried to the vehicle.
Prosecutor Perea Mercat interviewed Ojeda Creu last night when the young woman went to the Police Command in the said municipality to file a complaint against López Rivera, after making complaints through his social networks for the pattern of assaults and ill-treatment to which she alleges she was subjected by the athlete. After concluding the interview, which continued this morning, the prosecutor determined to file charges for violation of Articles 3.1 and 3.3 of Law 54 of August 15, 1989, known as Law for the Prevention and Intervention with Domestic Violence, as amended.

“Since yesterday, prosecutor Perea Mercat intervened in the case, in compliance with public policy and recent legislation that establishes the presence of prosecutors from the stage of Rule 6. It is a process that takes its time to safeguard the health of the victim, who has been very brave and has cooperated with the Public Ministry so that we can present the case with the required evidence. We urge the survivors to report the abuse to the authorities so that we can stop the cycle of violence and make them justice. We will make sure that the law is applied equally to anyone, “said Justice Secretary Domingo Emanuelli Hernandez.
The ex-boxer has remained silent since he went yesterday to the Police Command in Caguas in the company of Barceló Sosa.
For her part, the director of the Office of Compensation and Services for Victims and Witnesses of Crime of the Department of Justice, Sheila Miranda Rivera, reported that they have provided the young woman “support since the beginning of the process, and we have coordinated the provision of psychological services and preventive rounds in coordination with the police “.
