Malignant, between fascination and Naaahh, really?

The unconscious. There, or from there emerge the best horror films, certainly psychological. I thought the glowr, By Kubrick. en repulsion, De Polanski. Until The left island, By Scorsese, which was not horror, but horror.

The capacity it has James Wan | to terrify us, to generate fear, it seems to have it innate. the first The game of fear it was his creation. He directed the first two of the spell. He is also able to jump into the world of DC Comics, such as, which is filming the sequel to Aquaman, Which was also his.

But the best thing the Malaysian-born director handles is the scare. The fear. The terror.

Unlike the movies of the spell that Wan directed, where the wreck is there, inhabiting some house, in Maligne the possession is in Madison, the protagonist.

And if in the spell leads us, and we decided not to follow with our eyes closed, because we would miss the best, because we know that it will not deceive us, that there will be no false leads and that its path may be winding, but we will always be well guided, en malignant Wan puts impact into a story that takes them there.

Because there’s something that, at one point in the plot, will make the viewer fascinated or say “Naaaaahhh, really?”.

Not to complain-

But don’t complain, because in honor of Hitchcock, Maligne has a couple of MacGuffin, This appeal of the author of the script to not so much deceive the viewer, but then make a twist in the plot on this element to which the audience did not pay the attention it should.

Think of many Hitchcock films, or the one mentioned The sinister islanda.

Annabelle Wallis, who had already entered Wan’s sights when she starred in the first Annabelle, It’s Madison. And if there is anyone – in her right mind – in whom no one would want to be in her shoes it is in her. She has a complicated pregnancy, after two traumatic abortions and supports a shocking couple.

And it’s, right, but right, after an episode of gender-based violence that Madison begins to have, let’s say, visions. Are they the fruit of your imagination? No. They are real.

Madison has a strange power, which is that of clairvoyance, which connects her to a brutal assassin (¿Laura Mars’ eyes, Which had John Carpenter’s script, perhaps?). She, as she teleports to the place where this being, kills. She sees it.

How can it be?

Don’t ask me to spoil them. There is a mental sanatorium, almost a mansion, a castle overlooking a cliff, which is where the film opened. There are back and forth in time. There is a character with a complicated childhood, to say the least. And a couple of incredulous cops.

If the texture of Wan’s films, especially in the two he directed from the spell, They were like a trademark, here he opted for shades of blue, dark or reddish. Wan relied on Michael Burgess, who has just directed the photography of The spell 3 and some derived from the saga, but these final decisions were surely his.

The soundtrack, with a lot of electronics, isn’t dissonant, but it squeaks too much, perhaps.

malignant not the best of Wan, clearly. And there’s a gothic horror, with a bit of slasher and the Yellow Italian in which Wan opens – while it continues pivoting between some Fast and furious and DC blockbusters- with this movie that comes out best and that he (and we) like best.
