Witness accuses R. Kelly of shutting her down before sexual abuse

She was a fellow on a radio station in 2003 when she looked for what, she thought, would be an interview that would change her career with R&B superstar R. Kelly.

Instead she had a horrible experience while locked in a dark room for days, she testified on Thursday in great detail, years after the incident. She said she still lives convinced she was drugged and raped by Kelly while she was unconscious.

“I was sexually abused,” the woman told a jury at the sex trafficking trial against Kelly. “It wasn’t something I would have asked for.”

The witness, who testified without revealing her real name, is the latest on a list of prosecutors who have incriminated Kelly since the trial began in New York on Aug. 18.

Kelly, 54, has repeatedly denied allegations that he led a criminal network that sexually exploited women and minors of both sexes during his 30-year career led by the hit “I Believe I Can Fly”. His lawyers say the accusers are groups that lie about their relationship with him.

Announcing for the first time publicly her experience with Kelly, the former radio fellow said she was 21 and a single mother from Salt Lake City when she approached Kelly’s team to ask for a interview.

“It would have been my first interview with a big celebrity,” the 39-year-old witness said. “I thought I was going to boost my career.”
