Kenneth Petty, Nicki Minaj’s husband, has pleaded not guilty to registering as a sex offender in California, according to federal court records. Petty was arrested by the prosecution in March 2020 and initially pleaded not guilty. Records also show that Petty accepted a lawsuit in August 2021, and formally entered the guilty plea yesterday (September 9). He is scheduled to be convicted on Monday, January 24, 2022.
When he contacted Pitchfork, Kenneth Petty’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, made no comment. Pitchfork has also contacted representatives of Nicki Minaj.
According to the federal indictment, Kenneth Petty moved to California in July 2019, but did not register as a sex offender within five business days of the transfer. New York State sex offender registry guidelines state that an offender must notify the Criminal Justice Services Division within ten days of any change of address.
Petty was convicted of attempted first-degree rape in New York in 1995; he was 16 at the time of the crime and served his prison sentence for the crime. Petty and Nicki Minaj were recently sued by the woman who said Petty tried to assault her in 1995.
According to TMZ, Petty is suing New York State and its Criminal Justice Services division for trying to remove her name from the sex offender registry.
