FIFA proposes to make the qualifiers in one month for the World Cup every two years

Doha, Qatar.

FIFA, through a presentation made this Thursday to Arsene Wenger, explained that its intention, in addition to organizing the World Cup every two years, is to reduce and group in a single month all the qualifying matches of teams .

Wenger, who serves as director of development at FIFA, explained that they want to “shape the football of tomorrow” and that they intend to revolutionize the current calendar as it is “outdated”.

“We do not want to increase the number of matches, we want to ensure the rest of the players, that there are fewer trips, more important matches and more opportunities for footballers to shine, as well as reducing the gap between countries with more opportunities and those with less. “Wenger said at a press conference following the meeting that a group of former footballers and coaches have been held in Doha, Qatar, for two days as part of FIFA’s advice for the future. of men’s soccer.

“The schedule is outdated. It needs to be organized in an efficient way, grouping international windows, instead of different stops, which are not practical. Regroup and play fewer qualifying matches,” he added.

Thus, FIFA’s strategy is to play the World Cup in 2026, group in 2027 all the confederation tournaments, and return to play the 2028 World Cup.

Thus, FIFA seeks to benefit teams, preventing them from having to release players more frequently, and federations, giving them more opportunities to host the World Cup.
