The party is likely to announce his replacement in the evening, as it is understood that BJP general secretary BL Santosh was holding meetings at the state headquarters.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has resigned, paving the way for the change of guard in Gujarat, where the ruling BJP will face crucial Assembly ballot boxes next year.
Rupani met with Governor Acharya Devrat and submitted his resignation. “I resigned after conveying my wishes to the party leadership to let me work in the organization,” Rupani said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the high command of the party for giving him the opportunity to be CM for a little over five years in Gujarat.
The BJP in Gujarat said a new minister will be decided in charge of the party meeting of the BJP legislature.
Meanwhile, it is understood that BJP general secretary BL Santosh is holding meetings at the party state headquarters.
The ruling party had been contemplating a change of guard in Gujarat given the seemingly unclear administration of CM Rupani, whose performance was not in line with the expectations of the party’s high command.
Rupani had taken over as prime minister in August 2016 following the sudden resignation of Anandiben Patel, who is now the governor of Uttar Pradesh.
