One of Starlink’s satellites has fallen out of orbit and is currently heading for the planet and re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. The UK Space Agency has said there is “little chance it will burn in the UK very soon”.
The UK Space Agency tweeted: “We are monitoring your entry along with @DefenceHQ, and the re-entry is not expected to cause any damage. Due to different entry data, natural forces and ‘associated observation error, there are always high levels of uncertainty when making re-entry predictions on any satellite’.
“Today, a Starlink-1855 satellite has re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere. There is a possibility that it will re-enter the UK and you may be able to detect the satellite as it burns. Starlink has a fantastic trajectory or orchestration.safe and reliable inputs. We do not expect the return of the satellite to cause any damage. However, the UK Space Agency and the Ministry of Defense continuously monitor and evaluate satellite inputs and wreckage and any risk to British territories through our combined space tracking and monitoring capabilities “.
The satellites are designed to disintegrate completely after re-entering our atmosphere, so if you are in the UK and in the right place, you may have seen one of Elon Musk’s satellites fall from the sky, right in front of your eyeballs.
