The Yankees summon Clarke Schmidt to start the Subway Series final

Clarke Schmidt will get the ball with the chance to throw the Yankees to the Subway Series victory Sunday night.

The 25-year-old right-back was called up on Sunday to face the Mets for his 2021 debut after losing most of the season with an elbow strain.

Schmidt, currently the No. 5 Yankees for MLB.com, made his MLB debut last season, posting an ERA of 7.11 in three outings (one outing).

To make way for Schmidt, whose starting spot passes in place of Gerrit Cole, who left his last outing soon tense in the hamstrings, the Yankees opted for Andrew Velazquez in Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. The Bronx-born championship had given the Yankees a boost while Gleyber Torres was injured, especially with his sleek defense.
