(CNN) – Then-First Lady Melania Trump declined to call for peace and nonviolence as insurgents stormed the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, two sources familiar with the events told CNN. ‘that day.
Sources told CNN that Trump adviser Stephanie Grisham sent her a text message saying, “You want to tweet that peaceful protests are the right of every American, but that there is no room for anarchy. and violence? “, to which Melania Trump responded with a word:” No. ” Grisham details the story in his next book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now,” according to some sections that were published in Politico on Monday.
CNN reported in January that Melania Trump was in the White House during the uprising, overseeing a photo shoot of a carpet she had installed. At no point on January 6 did she decide to suspend the photo shoot, nor did she publicly comment in any way on the atrocities being committed by supporters of her husband, President Donald Trump, three miles away, in the Capitol, even as the barricades were torn down and the crowd entered the Capitol building.
It was not until January 11, five days after the insurgency, that Melania Trump partially condemned the violence.
Trump made a statement Monday regarding Grisham in Politico, saying, “The intent behind this book is obvious. It’s an attempt to redeem her after a bad exercise as a press secretary, failed personal relationships and a “unprofessional behavior in the White House. Through falsehood and betrayal, he seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump.”
Grisham was a loyal adviser to Trump for more than five years, briefly serving as White House Press Secretary before returning to the East Wing as Melania Trump’s chief of staff during the last year of the administration. .
He resigned on January 6, not long after he sent Trump the text message asking him if he wanted to speak out against violence at the Capitol.
Grisham’s book will go on sale on October 5th.
