The 38-year-old rap superstar revealed she is not attending the Met Gala tonight because guests have to prove vaccination for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t be for the Met. It will be once I feel like I have researched enough. ” wrote on Twitter. “I’m working on it now.”
She added: “In the meantime, my loves, rest assured. Use the mask with two strings that hold you to your head and face. It’s not that loose 🙏❤️ ”
It wasn’t long before a part of Minaj’s ever-faithful Barbz urged her to rethink her stance on vaccines.
“Nicki’s vaccine doesn’t stop her from coveting, she keeps her from having severe symptoms” wrote a social media user, echoing CDC research showing that vaccines are effective in preventing people from contracting deadly cases of COVID-19.
Still, Minaj doubled. “Girl. That’s not true, ” she replied before apparently acknowledging that he previously caught the virus. “I had exactly the same symptoms as ppl with the damn vaccine.”
The “Starships” singer he later stated that her cousin in Trinidad refuses to receive the vaccine because “her friend got it and became powerless.”
“His testicles swelled,” he alleged. “Her friend was a few weeks away from getting married, now the girl has canceled the wedding. Just pray for it and make sure you are comfortable with your decision, and don’t be intimidated. “
According to the CDC, the vaccine is safe and is not known to cause impotence or genital inflammation. Rather, it is known to maximize protection against emerging variants, including Delta, while possibly preventing the virus from spreading to others.
Minaj’s tweets arrived hours before the event kicked off at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Minaj also skipped Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, saying he “would explain why another day;” it is possible that the MTV event also had a vaccine warrant.
Hip-hop mogul and favorite Anna Wintour has toured the Met Gala carpet five times before. Her most recent appearance came at the party based on the 2019 “Camp” theme, in which she wore a pastel pink Prabal Gurung number.
There was no 2020 Gala due to the pandemic. Although the event usually takes place on the first Monday in May each year, this year’s edition, entitled “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” has been postponed until today due to concerns from COVID -19.
Minaj isn’t the only celebrity to have trusted this year’s party. Earlier today, Kylie Jenner, another mainstay of the Met Gala, opted to return to Los Angeles after a whirlwind trip to the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week.
“I’m so sad I couldn’t get it this year,” Jenner, 24, wrote Monday in a post on her Instagram story. “I can’t want to see all the looks.”
Page six reported that the pregnant reality star – who is expecting her second child with Travis Scott – felt that attending would take too much time, effort and energy.
“Kylie is pregnant and it’s a lot to take on going to such a public event,” a source said.
