Whirlpool will pay workers $ 1,000 to get vaccinated

The new vaccine incentive, confirmed by Whirlpool on CNN, underscores how Corporate America is trying to win over hesitant workers.

The vaccine bonus comes when the Biden administration prepares an emergency rule that will require large companies, such as Whirlpool, to guarantee vaccination of its entire workforce or to subject unvaccinated staff to weekly testing. Biden officials say companies that fail to comply could receive fines of up to $ 14,000 for infringement.

Whirlpool already offered employees a smaller vaccine incentive, but increased it to $ 1,000 last week.

Chad Parks, a spokesman for the company, said the intensified vaccine bonus will be applied to workers who had been vaccinated before and those recently vaccinated. He refused to say what the previous incentive mattered for.

“The health and safety of our employees remains our top priority,” Whirlpool said in a statement. “Throughout this pandemic we have been working tirelessly to serve our consumers, who depend on our products more than ever to clean, cook and provide proper food and medicine storage in their homes, and we are working to ensure that we can deliver “.

Whirlpool’s $ 1,000 vaccine incentive coincides with the one launched earlier this summer by Vanguard, one of the world’s largest asset managers. Vanguard’s $ 1,000 incentive applies to approximately 16,500 U.S. employees of the company who present vaccination tests on Oct. 1.

Some other companies have offered more modest incentives to get vaccinated. Kroger has said vaccinated employees will receive a one-time payment of $ 100, while Bolthouse farms offer a $ 500 bonus.
