Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., wore a white dress with the slogan “pay tribute to the rich” at New York’s lavish Met Gala, where tickets cost at least $ 30,000 each.
The choice of costume got a mixed response on social media, with some praising the message of Ocasio-Cortez and others questioning if it conflicted with the starry character of the event.

According to the Associated Press, tickets to the Met Gala cost at least $ 30,000. It is unclear whether Ocasio-Cortez bought a ticket.
The Ocasio-Cortez office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
AOC put on no mask when he arrived, but attendees had to be vaccinated and were expected to wear masks once inside.
A self-proclaimed Social Democrat, Ocasio-Cortez is one of the most prominent progressive voices in support of President Biden’s $ 3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package. He has repeatedly called for increased taxes on wealthier Americans to pay for progressive policy initiatives, such as climate-friendly infrastructure and expanding access to free health care.
During an interview on the red carpet, Ocasio-Cortez said she and the dress designer, Aurora James, discussed “what it means to be working-class women at the Met.”
“And we said, we can’t play, but we have to break the fourth wall and challenge some of the institutions, and while the Met is known for their show, we should talk about it,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
MET GALA: A LOOK AT THE MONEY BEHIND THE ANNUAL FASHION EVENT
Ocasio-Cortez’s appearance at the Met Gala followed a previous dispute with Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, a moderate Democrat who has opposed a $ 3.5 trillion broad plan that favored the President Biden and the progressive legislators.
New York lawmaker ripped off Manchin earlier this month to say he would not support the plan, suggesting he “has weekly meetings with Exxon” and supported energy companies contributing to climate-related disasters. Earlier Monday, Manchin described the allegation as “totally false” and referred to the congresswoman as “young,” prompting an ardent response from Ocasio-Cortez.
