The latest PlayStation 5 firmware update, which has been available to beta testers for quite some time, will be available to everyone starting tomorrow. The system patch includes support for the M.2 SSD storage slot, so you can now download and play more PS5 games and run them from an internal SSD. Other highlights include updates and tweaks to the PS5 user interface, new Accolade types, a trophy tracker, and 3D audio support for built-in speakers.
According to the PlayStation blog, here are all the patch notes for the new PS5 firmware update:
PS5 UX enhancements
- Customization of the control center. Players can now customize their control center more freely by rearranging or choosing which controls they want to hide or hide at the bottom of the screen.
- Improved game base. Players can now easily view and write messages to friends and parties directly from Game Base in the Control Center.
- Game library and home screen updates. If you have PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game installed, they will now appear separately on the “Installed” tab of the game library and on the home screen. Now, the tokens in each game also clearly indicate their platform.
- Screen reader controls. Players can now pause or resume the screen reader (press “PS + triangle buttons”) and have it repeat everything it reads (press “PS + R1 buttons”).
New customizations of social experience and games
- PlayStation Now resolution selector and connection test tool. PlayStation Now subscribers can choose between 720p or 1080p (depending on the individual game) to suit their preferred video resolution for game streaming. A transmission connection test also helps them identify and troubleshoot any connection issues.
- New type of recognition: “Leader”. After an online match, players can award others with a fourth type of recognition, “Leader”, which is visible in player profiles.
- Automatic “personal” video capture. When players compete in challenges to have a better time or get a higher score and set a new personal record, a video clip of the action will be automatically recorded. Players can also share clips of their personal memories directly from the challenge card at the control center or from their media gallery. Players have direct control over this functionality through the Capture and Broadcast settings.
- New trophy tracker. We’ve added a new trophy tracker that allows players to quickly access up to five trophies per game through the control center.
As for pumping 3D audio through the TV speakers, “this feature transforms the audio from standard two-channel TV speakers into three-dimensional sound, increasing the feeling of immersion in the game. Players can measure the ‘acoustics of your room using the DualSense wireless controller microphone. to apply 3D audio settings that are optimized for your room. “
