His. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, grilled From President Biden judicial candidate for a past statement he summoned Supreme Cort Judge Brett Kavanaugh “failed intellectually and morally.”
Cruz was behind Jennifer Sung, Biden’s candidate for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, for her open-ended signing of Yale law students and alumni denouncing the then candidate for the Supreme Court.
The letter called Kavanaugh “intellectually and morally bankrupt” and was published amid the tough 2018 nomination fight for justice.

“Mrs. Sung, do you think Judge Kavanaugh is” intellectually and morally bankrupt? Cruz asked the candidate for the hot spot, citing the letter.
“Senator, I want all Supreme Court judges to know, including Judge Kavanaugh, and fully respect his authority as a Supreme Court judge and would follow his precedents unreservedly,” Sung replied dodging the question.
Cruz remarked that Sung is an “experienced lawyer” and would know when someone does not answer a question and again asked the candidate if he believes Kavanaugh is “intellectually and morally bankrupt.”
Sung responded that, as he “previously stated” at the hearing, what he signed was “overheated rhetoric,” but he did not answer the senator’s question about whether he believed the statements in the letter he signed.
“I’m going to try again, because you signed your name there and not decades ago. It was very recent,” Cruz pressed for the third time. “You have signed your name to this statement. Today I only ask you: do you think Judge Kavanaugh is” in intellectual and moral bankruptcy? “”
“You signed your name with this proposal, do you still believe it?” continued the Texas senator.
Sung, trembling in voice, called in the 2018 statement he signed attacking both the intelligence and character of a Supreme Court candidate, then, “rhetorical advocacy” he signed as a private citizen, but he did not answer Cruz’s question for the third time.
