Bennett: The Palestinian state would be a terrible mistake

It would be a terrible mistake to create a Palestinian state, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said in a series of media interviews he conducted Tuesday night just after his return from his historic meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al- Yeah yeah.

“I oppose a Palestinian state. I think it would be a terrible mistake to take the terrible situation in Gaza and the recession in Judea and Samaria,” Bennett told KAN news.

His comments referred to Hamas ’ousting of the Palestinian Authority from Gaza in a bloody coup in 2007 and its forced takeover of the enclave, as well as the ensuing rocket attacks on southern Israel.

He inferred that if Hamas or another Palestinian group of radicals would similarly take the West Bank and turn the lives of Israelis living in Kfar Saba and their hometown, Raanana, into a living hell.

“I won’t,” he said.

Bennett said he understood that in any case, the Palestinian state at the time was not feasible and therefore the question of whether to support it was not relevant.

However, it was important to provide economic opportunities for Palestinians to improve their lives, Bennett said.

“My perspective is very entrepreneurial,” he said. “If we create more companies, strengthen the economy and improve the living conditions of everyone in Judea and Samaria, it would be better,” he added.

Bennett, who has met with Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah, clarified that he has no intention of speaking with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
“I don’t see the logic in meeting or talking to a person [Abbas] who is suing IDF soldiers and their commanders at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, “Bennett said. He added that while Abbas” accused IDF commanders and soldiers of war crimes, “he is providing stipulations monthly monetary payments to terrorists.
