The 30 nominees for the Roberto Clemente 2021 Award, the most prestigious individual honor for Major League players, feature some of the players who have performed the most philanthropic and humanitarian work, including 18 first-time nominees.
The Roberto Clemente Award is the annual recognition to a Major League Player who best represents baseball through extraordinary character, community participation, philanthropic work and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Nominees must be officially recognized as of Wednesday, Sept. 15, Merciful Robert Day, which was established by the Major Leagues to honor the humanitarian legacy of the late member of the Hall of Fame. On this 20th Annual Roberto Clemente Day, MLB announced that September 15, the date that marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, will be celebrated in perpetuity as Roberto Clemente Day.
