The U.S. State Department lowered the alert level for the Dominican Republic by placing it at level 2, removing the recommendation to its citizens to “reconsider traveling” to the country.
The information was released by the Dominican Embassy in the United States and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, emphasizing that the Dominican Republic is the only country in the Western Hemisphere that has the application throughout its territory. of level 2, which is a moderate level of alert that implies that travelers must “exercise greater caution” in relation to the health situation.
Ambassador Sonia Guzmán hailed the change in classification, noting that this “demonstrates that the Dominican Republic has done its job and achieved levels of pandemic control that stand out not only in our hemisphere but also in the world.”
“Our country is proving to be a safe destination for American visitors, with health checks in place and excellent prospects for economic recovery,” the diplomat said.
Minister David Collado, stated that this reduction in the alert level of the United States places us as the least risky country in the Caribbean region.

CDC criteria
During the pandemic, the State Department has given more weight to the health criteria used by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States to assess countries’ performance in controlling the covid pandemic. Last year, the country was briefly placed at level 4, the highest, and that advised against any trip to the country.
The embassy explained that in the CDC alert system, the Dominican Republic is also the only country in the Western Hemisphere the alert level is “level 2: moderate”, unlike other countries that are they are in “level 3: high” or “level 4: very high”.
