Since President Joe Biden announced his controversial new vaccine mandates aimed at private companies, critics have argued the measure is divisive and unconstitutional.
George Mason University (GMU) law professor Todd Zywicki, who received a medical exemption from the university, is one such critic, who told CBN News’ Faith Nation that the mandates actually undermine the message of the vaccine and insult the intelligence of Americans at once. .
Zywicki’s own case against GMU earned him an exemption from the vaccination requirement there because he argued he had “natural immunity” after receiving COVID.
The Virginia-based university had a mandate that required the inoculation of all attending students before August 1st. Teachers and staff had a deadline of August 15 to get vaccinated. Those who did not fulfill the mandate had to show the reason for a medical or religious exemption.
The law professor explained that forcing people to get vaccinated is not the way to address those who are unwilling. In fact, it causes more tension among Americans.
“Mandates are certainly not the way to overcome hesitation, that is, forcing someone to do something will not make them more willing to do it. And what I think we are seeing is already a revolution that is it’s producing mostly among those like me who have natural immunity, ”Zywicki said.
“Now there are reports that nurses with natural immunity stop smoking. There is a report trying to reschedule births. I learned that cardiac units were shutting down. People who have natural immunity need to be respected here because of the risks that they are putting us down, ”he added. “These draconian people, just crushing, will not overcome the hesitation. You may force some people to get vaccinated, but that will not improve this country’s commitment to come together and fight this pandemic.”
Zywicki said exemptions should be applied to the broad vaccine mandates announced Friday by the White House, despite the administration’s “misdirected” way of dealing with the issue.
“Now we have been in this pandemic for a year and a half. What we should focus on is the level of immunity of people, no matter how much is acquired, whether by vaccine or natural immunity … this is the way to go. get out, ”he noted. “It’s not about vaccinating people who don’t need to be vaccinated like me, forcing people at health risks, leaving it up to employers to determine if someone has a legitimate medical exemption … it’s crazy and violates the Constitution.”
“Your right to bodily autonomy and integrity is not a matter of majority voting, and it is not a matter of making it available to suburban voters to determine whether someone has the right to be free from involuntary medical activity. We should focus on immunity and this is our flat path to get out of it in the long run. Immunity, however, has acquired. “
He noted that the scientific evidence supporting natural immunity is obvious.
“The science on this is clear at the moment unless you have some superstitious link to vaccines, natural immunity is robust, durable, broad, protects against variants and we all know that the Israeli study considers natural immunity to be 27 times more protective than vaccines against symptomatic infections and eight times more protective against hospitalization, ”he said.
“It’s really no competition right now and the idea is that we will continue on this one path of vaccination and ignore natural immunity: my students, my colleagues are at least too smart for that and I wish someone in the House Blanca, wake up with this fact as well “.
