Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are two of the most influential people in Time magazine

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have secured a coveted place on Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people this year.

On the cover of the issue is Harry, who turned 37 on Wednesday, dressed in black while leaning on 40-year-old Markle, dressed in a white pants suit. Both royal families stare at the camera with serious expressions as they pose in front of a wooded scene.

“They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production,” Chef Jose Andres wrote in a short essay on the couple. “In the hands of nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need, providing mental health care to black women and girls in the U.S. and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean.”

Andrés, who partnered with the couple last December to build community centers with World Central Kitchen, concluded: “In a world where everyone has an opinion on people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for people who don’t they know, they know, they don’t just think, they run to the fight. “

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – who sensationally took a step back as members of the royal family in early 2020 – topped the “Icons” section of the list, which also includes pop star Britney Spears, the country superstar Dolly Parton, tennis pro Naomi Osaka and Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
