Contrary to some recent media reports, MacRumors can confirm that the new Apple Watch Series 7 works with a new S7 chip, although the S7 is based around the same CPU that is on the S6 series 6 chip.
Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 7 yesterday during its event, but the watch will not be available until “later this fall.” As a result, Apple has so far offered relatively few details about the new watch, nor has it even posted a spec page on its website detailing the specific features of the 7 Series.
However, MacRumors can confirm several details about the 7 series that Apple does not currently share. First, Apple Watch Series 7 works with an S7 brand chip, which Apple indicates will offer the same 20% performance advantage over the S5 chip found in the Apple Watch SE and 5 Series as the Apple Watch Series 6 did.
How noted by Steve Troughton-Smith, the CPU of the S7 chip carries the same identifier t8301 as the CPU of the previous S6 chip, which explains why Apple’s performance claims do not change in relation to the S6.
However, there is one Apple Watch chip more than just the CPU, and this is where there have apparently been some changes that have led Apple to brand it with a new name while offering the same performance. With the larger 7 Series display, the S7 chip is likely to have been modified to continue to provide customers with all-day battery life, even though it powers the larger, more advanced screen.
It’s not the first time Apple has done such a thing. For example, with the Apple Watch Series 5, Apple included the S5 chip that carried the same CPU as its predecessor, but with the addition of a gyroscope.
In terms of internal storage, the Apple Watch Series 7 includes 32 GB, the same as the Series 6 and SE models.
We can also share several details about the weight of the upcoming WatchApple Watch Series 7 compared to the 6 Series:
- Apple Watch Series 7 41mm in aluminum: 4.9% heavier than 40mm Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7 41mm stainless steel: 6.5% heavier than 40mm Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7 41mm titanium: 6.9% heavier than 40mm Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7 45mm in aluminum: 6.6% heavier than 44mm Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7 45mm stainless steel: 9.3% heavier than 44mm Series 6
- Apple Watch Series 7 45mm titanium: 9.2% heavier than 44mm Series 6
With Apple Watch Series 7, Apple includes a faster charge, claiming that it can be charged to 80% in just 45 minutes and that 8 minutes of fast charging will provide enough battery life for 8 hours of sleep tracking. To support the new fast charge, Apple will offer a new 1-meter USB-C fast charge magnetic cable.
We can confirm that Apple will include the new fast charging cable in the box with Apple Watch Series 7. If you use the older USB-A cable with the 7 Series, the device will charge at normal, non-fast charging speeds.
In terms of connectivity, the 7 Series includes the same Bluetooth 5.0 protocol as the 6 Series, but unlike the 6 Series, the new Apple Watch Series 7 also has built-in support for Beidou, the satellite navigation system. · Bed of China. The 7 Series also includes the U1 chip, with no apparent improvements compared to last year’s Ultra Series 6 chip or iPhone 12.
