Cardinals’ Chandler Jones confirms commercial request

Chandler Jones acknowledged his off – season commercial request while chatting with reporters on Wednesday (Twitter link through Kent Somers of the Republic of Arizona). However, the Cardinals ’defensive defense says he keeps his mind off any contractual issues and lets his agent take over.

Jones asked Arizona to treat him sometime in July. As it stands, the 31-year-old has one year and $ 15.5 million to hire. Now he wants a new deal, other than in the spring, to cover the rest of his high season and maybe some post-prime seasons.

A $ 20 million short-term deal in the AAV neighborhood could make sense for both parties. At the same time, he doesn’t have a lot of leverage after losing much of 2020 due to a biceps injury. In his five games, he recorded eleven attacks, a sack and seven QB hits. Overall, he didn’t look like his usual self, even while he was healthy.

The Cardinals ’previous refusal to change Jones indicates a desire to continue the course with the three-time Pro Bowler. But if talks don’t move forward in the coming weeks, he could be a potential trade candidate before the deadline.

Jones, who ended his five-year, $ 82.5 million deal, averaged 15 sacks per season during his first four years (2016-2019) in Arizona.
