MAUSTON, Wis. – After another COVID-19 death in Juneau County, public health leaders are taking the time to share a message from the man’s family: Get vaccinated.
The Juneau County Public Health Department shared a post on Facebook announcing the death of the 49-year-old man. According to the message, the man left behind four children and his wife. He had no underlying disease, but was not vaccinated.
His wife shared a message with the department saying it would still be.
“Anyone who is not vaccinated, please get their vaccine,” he said. “My husband would still be alive if he got vaccinated.”
To date, 7,771 people in Wisconsin have died from complications of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Twenty-three people have died from the disease in Juneau County.
Across the state, 52.8% of residents are fully vaccinated. In Juneau County, less than half of residents are fully vaccinated.
According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, those who are not vaccinated are more than ten times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those who have been shot. Hospitalizations are more than eight times more likely for the unvaccinated.
