Yankees at the tip of the Joker then victory over Orioles

BALTIMORE – Brett Gardner hit a two-run single in the ninth inning, after a double steal, and the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 Wednesday to line up their third win.

New York kept pace with Toronto and Boston in the tight fight for wildcard tickets in the postseason in the American League. All three teams won.

Austin Hays fired two fumbles for the Orioles, including a two-run firework when there were two outs from the eighth inning against Chad Green, to put the board 3-2 in favor of Baltimore.

The quadrangular came shortly after Venezuelan midfielder Gleyber Torres caught a powerful line and, instead of throwing in second to retire the most advanced runner, threw in first to make the out to Cedric Mullins.

Relief Tyler Wells (2-3) gave a ticket to Luke Voit at the start of the ninth inning, and Torres followed with a single. Emerging Tyler Wade and Torres ran for a double steal with an out, just as it was starting to rain.

Gardner continued with a single in center field, which pushed both runs, to the delight of the many fans who made the trip to Camden Yards.

Dominican Wandy Peralta (5-3) took the victory and Cuban Aroldis Chapman got his 27 saves.

For the Yankees, Venezuelan Gleyber Torres 3-2 with a score. Dominican Gary Sanchez 4-0. Colombian Gio Urshela 4-1 with one scored and two produced.

For the Orioles, the Venezuelan Anthony Santander 4-1. The Mexican Ramón Uries of 4-1. Dominican Kelvin Gutierrez 4-0.
