Apple has released this week the sixth-generation iPad mini, whose mobile models can be connected to 5G for the first time. Still, it’s worth noting that the cellular connectivity of the new ‌iPad mini‌ doesn’t extend to support faster 5W mmWave.

Apple does not maintain a cell phone compatibility page for iPad models as it does for its iPhones, so the lack of 5G mmWave support on the ‌ iPad mini‌ could surprise some Apple customers. Apple mmWave 5G support is currently limited to the iPhone 13 line, the iPhone 12 line, and the 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro mobile variants.

On the plus side, like the new iPhone 13‌ models, the ‌iPad mini‌ supports more 5G bands than the ‌iPhone 12‌ models and cell phones accordingiPad Pro‌, according to Apple, so the ‌iPad mini‌ has greater 5G coverage throughout the world that the PiPhone 12‌ and ‌iPad Pro‌.

Despite rumors suggesting that ‌iPhone 13‌ models would support mmWave 5G in other countries, support for mmWave is still limited to iPhone and ‌iPad‌ models sold in the United States, so its absence in the new ‌iPad mini‌ mobile it can only worry customers who are based there.

mmWave is a set of 5G frequencies that promise ultra-fast speeds over short distances, making it more suitable for dense urban areas. In comparison, sub-6 GHz 5Gs are usually slower than mmWave, but the signals travel further and serve better in suburban and rural areas. All four ‌iphone 13‌ models support sub-6 GHz outside the United States, and sub-6 GHz networks are more common in countries that have implemented 5G.

Starting at $ 499 for the only 64GB Wi-Fi model, the redesigned sixth-generation ignediPad is available for pre-booking now in Apple’s online store. Mobile models are available for an additional $ 150 over the base price of each setup. Shipment of the iPad mini begins on Friday, September 24th.
