A BSO MP fatally shoots a man in the North Lauderdale mall

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A deputy from Broward’s sheriff’s office shot dead a 26-year-old man who witnesses said he was armed with a knife Thursday in North Lauderdale, deputies said.

A witness said the man was holding the knife and going back and forth inside a store. Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said the shipment received several calls to 911 reporting that there was a man with a knife cutting inside Ross.

“I was walking. You could see the knife when he lifted his shirt, “the witness told Local 10 News.

The first deputy to arrive saw a suspect leave the store and ordered him to drop the knife, but he did not, deputies said. Instead, he charged against the deputy, Tony said.

“Our deputy tried to de-escalate by doing a tactical retreat, moving away from the individual as he continued to approach him with a knife,” Tony said.

Witnesses recorded the confrontation.

The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. in the mall at 7300 West McNab Road.

Announcements

According to Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokesman for BSO, the injured man was taken to a nearby hospital. Tony said the man is dead.

Those who frequent the area say the man was a familiar face.

“I see him in this area asking for money,” a witness said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deadly shots according to the standard protocol of a shooting involved.
