A man was crushed to death by his own car in a McDonald’s drive-thru in Vancouver, in what police called a “groundbreaking” strange accident.
The man, who has not been identified by police, was at the Main Street fast food restaurant around 5:30 a.m. when officials said he got out of his car to retrieve something, he reported the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
But the vehicle rolled forward and pinned him against the building, crushing him.
“Early lifeguards made efforts to revive the man, but he tragically died at the scene,” Vancouver police officer Tania Visintin told the network. “This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences are addressed to this man’s family and friends. “
According to the San Jose Mercury-News newspaper, the man had left his bank card and got out of the car to pick it up when the accident occurred.
The incident is now being investigated by the collision unit of the Vancouver Police Department and the British Columbia Coroners Office.
