WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A 23-year-old Florida man who worked as a doctor and went to jail as a teenager has been arrested again on charges of fraud and theft, according to police.
Malachi Love-Robinson was released Thursday hours after his arrest, WPTV reported in West Palm Beach.
According to police, Love-Robinson asked customers to send money to his personal bank account rather than to the shipping company he worked for. He is accused of taking over $ 10,000 belonging to the company.
A police report said Love-Robinson texted the owner of the company, saying he was really sorry and that he was doing his best to “do it right,” the TV station reported. “I don’t want to go to jail,” Love-Robinson said, according to the report.
He pleaded guilty to several charges of fraud, large-scale theft and practice of unlicensed medicine resulting from his arrest in 2016.
Patients told researchers that Love-Robinson claimed he had several degrees, including a doctorate. and a medical doctor They didn’t realize he was only 18 at the time.
He was accused of stealing $ 35,000 from an elderly patient in 2015 and authorities say he was illegally operating a medical consultation, with an office, a lab coat and a stethoscope. He was later also charged with theft.
Love-Robinson insisted that he was not pretending to be a doctor, but that he was a naturopath.
He served nearly 21 months in a maximum security prison near Fort Myers.
The records do not list any phone numbers for Love-Robinson or indicate if he had a lawyer.
