A federal Grand Jury issues 8 a.m. drug trafficking charges through the airport

The federal prosecutor’s office in Puerto Rico reported that eight members of an alleged drug trafficking bargain were charged by a federal Grand Jury.

Federal prosecutor Stephen Muldrow indicated that, according to the indictment, the eight defendants conspired since 2018 to obtain, transport and distribute narcotics, including cocaine, between Puerto Rico and New York.

In a press release, Muldrow identified the defendants as Jaime Antonio Nieto Irizarry, Frankie Javier Piñero Miranda, Elena García Muñiz, Sergio Rosari Cruz, José Luis Acevedo Atilano, Jaume David Ruiz Delgado, Tiffany Michelle Zayas Román and Sarai Denisse Rivera-Díaz.

He explained that the indictment is the product of an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), along with the Airport Investigations and Tactical Team (AirTAT), which is working against traffic through the airport.

If convicted, the defendants face a maximum life sentence in prison, the federal prosecutor’s office said.
