A Florida fugitive went into hiding in Ohio with his two young daughters

CLEVELAND – A Florida fugitive wanted for allegedly hitting a 28-year-old man with a wrench was captured in Ohio, where he found himself hiding with his two 6-year-old daughters.

The man, Ramon Medina Santiago, was wanted from Lee County, Florida, for an assault that happened Jan. 9.

Authorities say Santiago and some other people were riding their motorcycles and “causing disorder to the rest of the drivers.” When one of the drivers tried to get away from the group, Santiago and the group allegedly hit him with a wrench and their helmets.

Nearby spectators stopped the assault and Santiago and the others marched.

Police later identified Santiago as a suspect and an arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday, authorities said. U.S. marshals learned he fled to Ohio with his two daughters and contacted members of the working group on violent fugitives from northern Ohio. Officers from here immediately began searching for Santiago, and within hours he was captured at block 2100 West Boulevard in Cleveland.

Santiago had with him his twin daughters of 6 years. They were handed over to Cuyahoga County Children’s Services and then returned to the Florida family.

“Not only are we pleased to have this violent and reckless fugitive off the street, but getting the two girls back safely is a victory for everyone involved. I thank Florida officers and teams here in Ohio for their dedication to the missions of arresting fugitives and recovering children in danger, “said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.
