A Florida nurse pleads guilty to threatening to kill Kamala Harris

A Florida nurse has pleaded guilty to threatening to kill Kamala Harris, claiming she was going to carry out the plot due to illness because the vice president was not “actually black,” authorities said.

Niviane Petit Phelps, 39, of Miami-Dade County, pleaded guilty Friday, admitting that she sent her jailed husband six 30-second video clips of herself in February, alleging that she accepted $ 53,000 because the “success” is completed within 50 days, court documents show.

“Kamala Harris, you’re going to die,” Phelps said in a clip, according to a complaint obtained by USA Today. “Your days are numbered.”

Phelps, who is black, told investigators he had made the threats because Harris, 56, who was born to a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, was not “really black” and his belief that the vice president he put his hand in the bag rather than a Bible on the opening day, according to the complaint.

In another video, Phelps said in February that he was “going to the gun camp” until Harris “left.”[s] the chair, ”the Washington Post reported.

Days later, Phelps referred to the $ 53,000 in another video sent to her husband, saying “in 50 days you will die,” according to court records.

Phelps, a mother of three who lives in Miami Gardens, sent the clips to her husband via JPay, an app that inmates used to communicate with loved ones, the Washington Post reported.

After submitting the videos, including another showing herself with a gun with a blank sheet at a distance, Phelps applied for a concealed gun permit, authorities said.

Phelps also admitted that he told police officers who handled the case that if they had not come to his home, he “does not know” what would have happened, “according to the U.S. Attorney for the South Florida District.

Phelp’s attorney, Scott Saul, told NBC News Tuesday that he never intended to carry out the murder.

“Ma’am. Phelps has led an honorable life up to this incident,” Saul said. “Madam. Phelps has pleaded guilty, but plans to prove significant mitigating circumstances.”

Phelps faces five years in prison when she is sentenced on Nov. 19. Saul will ask for a sentence that does not involve jail time, he said.

Phelps has been working for Jackson Health System since 2001 and spent her last years as a licensed nurse at the West Ambulatory Care Center at Jackson Memorial Medical Center, WTVJ reported.

The veteran nurse was suspended without pay in April while the hospital processed her cessation, officials said.

Phelps’ mother, meanwhile, said at the time that she hoped to step down, saying her daughter was “sick” and did not understand her actions.

“Don’t punish her … because she listened to what people tell her,” Heroeia Petit told WTVJ. ”… She is desperate. It has nothing to do. “
