FRANKFURT – German pilot Samy Kramer has drawn a giant syringe into the sky, flying 200 kilometers to remind people of the start of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Europe.
The 20-year-old pilot mapped out the route he would have to take with a GPS device before reaching the sky near Lake Constance in southern Germany. The syringe-shaped route appeared on the flightradar24 website.
“There are still relatively many people who oppose vaccination and my action can remind them to think about the issue and get things moving,” Kramer told Reuters TV on Sunday, adding that his flight did not it must be understood as a direct call to be inoculated.
“Maybe it was also a bit of a joy, because the aviation industry has been hit hard by the pandemic,” Kramer said.
Germany officially began its vaccination campaign against COVID-19 on Sunday. The federal government plans to distribute more than 1.3 million doses of vaccine to local health authorities by the end of this year and about 700,000 weekly starting in January.
