“Godzilla vs. Kong” wasn’t the only giant lizard drama this week.
A huge Asian water monitor terrified shoppers after they entered a “monster king” via a 7-Eleven in Bangkok, Thailand. The original video tweet of the incident garnered nearly a million views before being deleted.
The fearsome clip, which has been re-posted on Facebook, shows the monster reptile climbing a milk shelf, tipping over cardboard boxes and causing viewers to scream in shock.
“The shelves are ruined! Oh, God, ”a voice can be heard exclaiming about the reptile interloper who, up to 8 feet long, is the second largest lizard in the world after the Komodo dragon, according to Everything Reptiles.
The clip concludes with the water monitor resting on the shelf, near the ceiling, while viewers tease in the background.
Fortunately, despite their massive size, opportunistic predators do not pose a threat to adult humans, but they choose to enjoy everything from eggs to small mammals and carrion, according to experts at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology. . (However, a dead monitor was found partially eaten by monitors in southern Thailand in May 2020).
Still, the gritty shopping store left social media in the form of tizz.
“Godzilla is a real guy,” one social media viewer wrote. Another described the scene as “bad-sounding.”
“Whenever you’re hungry, visit the 7-Eleven, eh?” launched a social media comic in reference to the motto of the convenience store chain.
It is unknown why the lizard entered the store in the first place, although some speculate that it was trying to escape the humid outside temperatures.
This isn’t the first time a monitor lizard has landed humans. In 2016, large scavengers overcame Bangkok’s Lumpini Park, damaging the flora and surprising visitors, the Bangkok Post reported.
Meanwhile, in a now viral clip of a Japanese game, a monitor was let loose on contestants wearing beef on their heads.
