A major winter storm will hit Louisiana and Mississippi on Monday, near southern Mississippi

Mainly cold rain is expected throughout southern Mississippi (Pearl River County, Stone, George, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson). However, as the rain comes out and temperatures begin to drop, a transition to icy rain or sleet or a mixture of both is possible. It is not out of the question that a very thin layer of ice can accumulate on elevated surfaces such as trees, power lines, and roads in areas along and west of Highway 49 and north of I-10, such as: River Pearl, Stone, northwest Harrison and northern Hancock Counties. This could lead to a slow shift on Monday afternoon. Whether or not the frozen enamel reaches the shore depends on how quickly the cold air enters and how quickly or slowly the moisture enters. Significant accumulations of frost and icy sleet are not expected, but there is not much to do about travel problems. While some snowflakes can mix with this, snow is not likely to accumulate.
