A man killed in a police shooting after shooting the boy’s mother’s friend in the East Side apartment, says boss

According to San Antonio police chief William McManus, a man in his thirties who was shot dead by police after taking his son’s mother’s friend to an apartment in the US ‘East Side.

Police were called to the East Meadow apartments at 1200 North Walters Street on Friday night.

McManus said the 30-year-old man confronted his son’s mother’s friend and then shot him. An agent who was nearby arrived moments later and found the suspect in the shooting.

The officer confronted the man and the suspect in the shooting pulled out his gun, McManus said.

After that, the officer withdrew and asked for a backup while shadowing the suspect in the shooting, who continued up the street, with the weapon still visible, in Burleson.

When the second group of officers arrived 15 to 20 minutes later, five of the officers overshadowed the shooting suspect and tried to reduce the situation, McManus said.

McManus said the suspect told a site captain, “I don’t put the gun.”

The suspect in the shooting entered an empty field and officers used a Taser to try to subdue him, according to the chief. He then fired at officers, and five of them fired back, hitting him several times, McManus said.

None of the officers were injured in the shooting.

The suspect in the shooting was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The victim shot in the apartment complex was taken to hospital in critical condition. The chief said he remained stable at the last check.

Officers, whose careers with SAPD range from three to 19 years, will be put into administrative functions.
