
Five states have extended the eligibility for the coronavirus vaccine to anyone 16 and older, and at least 22 more are expected to open to people 16 and older by the end of April.
Alaska opened vaccines to everyone aged 16 and over on March 9, Mississippi on March 16th West Virginia expanded on March 22 and Utah and state-run sites in certain Arizona the counties opened on March 24th. People aged 16 or over in Oklahoma it can be vaccinated through the Chickasaw Nation’s immunization program, but not yet through the state program.
As of Wednesday, Louisiana, Iowa i Washington are the latest states to announce plans to extend coronavirus vaccine eligibility to anyone 16 and older, announcing Wednesday that they will expand vaccines in late March, early April and May, respectively.
For all states that currently vaccinate anyone 16 years of age or older, people 16 or 17 years of age can only receive one Pfizer vaccine, as it is the only authorized option for use in that population to date. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for use in adults over 18 years of age.
