ACROSS THE STATE – As hospitals in the Tampa Bay and Central Florida areas continue to work 24 hours a day to help the severely ill with COVID-19, a new CDC study demonstrates how powerful this delta variant is.

  • Those who have not received the vaccine are 29 times more likely to be hospitalized, according to the study
  • According to the CDC, unvaccinated people are five times more likely to get the virus

According to the new CDC study, those who are not vaccinated are not only 29 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID. The study presented in the CDC’s weekly morbidity and mortality report also shows that unvaccinated people are five times more likely to get the virus.

Doctors across Central Florida and the Tampa Bay area have highlighted how this virus could attack anyone at any age.

This week, there have been more than 100,000 positive cases in Florida and that makes a big difference from last month’s increase.

Doctors say that as more people get the vaccine, those numbers are expected to go down even further.

“All people who die without being vaccinated are, uh, it’s a preventable death. It’s a lot, it’s really heartbreaking,” said Dr. Warren Abel, a critical care physician at St. John’s Hospital. Anthony of St. Petersburg.

More than 75 million Americans remain unvaccinated, and health leaders encourage people to go to their local health department to get the vaccine.
