For the first time this year, there are some new hunting rules after a trace of chronic disease was found in waste in Montgomery County.
In November, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources discovered that a deer tested positive for chronic disease.
Because of this, the overall gun season increased to four weeks in Montgomery and Pulaski counties.
There will be voluntary CWD testing sites available during the hunting season beginning September 4th.
“Several CWD test sites were created,” said Virginia DWR wildlife veterinarian Megan Kirchgessner. “The hunter just has to follow the instructions on the website and these test sites. And we will try these deer for free and return them to the hunters.
Virginia DWR will hold a meeting Tuesday night in the Blacksburg High School auditorium from 6 to 8 p.m. You can also participate virtually.
