Schedule a dental appointment to see your dentist and hygienist. This is the best way to start the new year with clean teeth and no cavities. Periodic checkups prevent longer and more expensive dental treatments that result from untreated gum disease and caries.
Brushing twice a day is important, but flossing is just as important. Commit to flossing daily, as it removes all plaque and food we’ve eaten all day, so it doesn’t bother you and causes gum disease and cavities. There are many ways to make it easier, such as putting it next to your toothbrush and flossing while watching TV or showering.
Taking on any habit that harms your teeth and gums is always beneficial. If you smoke or chew tobacco, choose a date to quit, seek help from family, friends, health professionals, or a support group, get rid of all products, and replace the activity with something healthy and useful. Avoid habits such as biting your nails or cuticles, opening things with your teeth, holding them with your teeth, and grinding and squeezing that can damage your teeth.
