A police officer was shot in the back Thursday night in Brooklyn and could have been rescued when the bullet hit the rear armor of his protective vest, sources said.
Police were responding to a domestic dispute at 1606 Prospect Place in Crown Heights just after 9pm, when the army opened fire, according to police sources.
The perplexed man was walking towards his girlfriend’s house when he allegedly told her he had a gun and would open fire when he got there, sources said.
Police arrived at the residence after the girl’s mother called 911.

Police were rushed to Kings County Hospital. Its status is unknown.
Police officers gathered at the hospital Thursday night to offer their support.
Sources reported that the gunman was arrested shortly after the shooting. The suspect has not yet been identified and the reason for the attack was unclear Thursday afternoon.
The FBI’s joint working group on terrorism was also at the scene.
