– The U.S. Postal Service has agreed to take aggressive action to ensure that ballots are counted by mail in Georgia’s election. In an agreement signed with civil rights groups, the USPS said it would treat the remaining ballots at processing centers within three days of the Jan. 5 election as express mail, which equates to delivery the next day. per Washington Post. Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are challenging Democrats David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in the election, the results of which will decide which party controls the Senate.
“USPS will coordinate with Georgia (Electoral Board) to make arrangements to deliver all incoming ballots to the BOE before 19:00 local time on January 5, 2020,” the agreement says, according to CNN. The postal service also promises other measures, including a sweep of postal facilities to make sure ballots are not overlooked. More than 2 million Georgians have already voted, or about a quarter of the state’s registered voters, Fox News reports. (Read more USPS stories.)
