While many vehicle manufacturers were busy advertising concepts and close cars this year Shanghai Motor Show, Tesla had other things to classify at its car show stand. A protester got on top of a Tesla Model 3 and started shouting about alleged faulty brakes on Tesla cars, from a Bloomberg report.
The woman was wearing a T-shirt with the Tesla logo that said “Brake lost control” and repeatedly shouted the same phrase before the security of the stand stopped her, for Bloomberg:
The woman has been identified simply as Mrs. Zhang, according to a Tesla statement quoted by the Wall Street Journal. Zhang has been linked to previous protests in which he claimed his father’s Model 3 brakes failed and endangered his family in an accident earlier this year, according to the WSJ:
Tesla said in a statement to Weibo that the protester was a Tesla customer from Henan Province whose father was involved in a February accident in which his Model 3 had crashed into another vehicle.
The woman had demanded a full refund, alleging that a technical problem with the car had caused the accident, according to Tesla. Still, the company said the woman’s father had crashed due to speeding. The company said it had been in contact with the woman and was willing to help her find a solution.
Tesla seemed to give a conciliatory tone on the situation of the woman, stating that she has tried to negotiate with the woman and come to a satisfactory conclusion after the accident.
A senior executive and vice president of Tesla, Grace Tao, went on to say that she was confident that many customer complaints are based on misunderstandings, and that May not the best quote to offer in situations like these. Basically, Tao’s observation of the WSJ it is a refutation of manual wave and “user error” to issues far removed from the harmless but annoying mistakes that technology users experience.

When product failures endanger people’s lives, tensions arise and exact situations like this protest occur. So it seems that the exchanges between Tesla and Ms. Zhang has not fared well for either party and is not the first of the protests in which Ms. Zhang. Bloomberg. This latest protest did not end well, as members of the security had to physically contain the protester.
Tesla tightened security at its stand after the alteration, but at the time it seemed debatable as the woman caused a very public commotion that began to tend on social media and gained much attention and solidarity from others Tesla owners with their own complaints.
